WHAT IS TOWING AND LABOR COVERAGE?

Even for those who are minimalists, a car is an important part of daily life. It is more to get from point A to point B; also it is protection for family and friends in transit, also it's a way to haul your groceries. There are other ways to get around, but when something happens to put your car out of commission, it will impact your daily routine. For something that is such an integral part of life, it makes sense that you would like to take measures to protect it and why we use auto insurance coverage. When it comes time to use the policy, wading through documents can be tough. What most people don’t realize, however, your auto insurance policy covers what you think.

Liability versus Comprehensive and Collision

Auto insurance has two parts, one is that what people protect and the other part which vehicle covers. Liability coverage is the first part and it is the only part of auto insurance required by the car owner. Often, if you have a loan or lease, the financing service will need you to carry comprehensive and collision, but it is not counted under legally mandated coverage. The liability coverage is what pays out for the expense of injuries or property damage if you are deemed “at fault”.

Comprehensive and collision, on the other hand, are the two-part coverage that offers assistance for your vehicle for nearly anything that may happen that is under your control. This could mean an accident with another car, with an animal, or any act of nature like hail. Your comprehensive and collision coverage are the subsection of an auto policy that offers the payment to repair your vehicle, assuming it isn’t and intentional damage. In terms of auto insurance, liability coverage follows the owner of the policy for example, if you are driving a friend's car or a rental car and met an accident – the comprehensive and collision coverage follow the vehicle on the policy.

Comprehensive and Collision Extras

Because comprehensive and collision coverage are the option you opt into and you generally need to pay a bit more, but these two options with a few benefits you may not expect. Both comprehensive and collision coverage are designed to protect your car either from intentional damage or with regular wear and tear. It includes towing your car to a repair shop, and if necessary the cost of the repair itself and deductible.

However, many insurance companies allow you to add additional coverage if you need it, and it usually only a few bucks a month. Towing and labor coverage is extra coverage available on basically any auto insurance policy. And it's a common enough set you can get to cover the cost of towing and some labor, such as battery jumped or a flat tire changed. More often than not, the materials themselves are your responsibility, but the cost of a tow or the work can be covered under the policy. So if you are stranded with a flat tire, dead battery, or due to car lockdown, towing and labor coverage would pay someone to offer you our new tire and change it accordingly, but it will not cover the cost of the tire.
